We have some new yellow Overdrive Preamp 250 pedals in stock with our mods. They are available the basic (vintage DOD-OD250) mod, the MOJO 741 (correct chip) mod, plus options for true bypass and LED.
We can also do a vintage MXR distortion+ mod on these, with germanium diodes, etc like the original script logo MXR distortion+. This is $10 more than the Mojo mod.
These come standard with a 1/8" old MXR style power jack or we can change it to the barrel BOSS type as an option.
These pedals are hand-wired, with hand-wired jacks, switches, and pots, just like the old ones. So they can be fixed and kept working easily by anyone, unlike the new "reissue" 2013 DOD overdrive which has everything soldered to the circuit board, and uses tiny surface-mount components for cheap machine manufacturing. We also sell that one on a different page than this but no mods on that one as it's not hand made.
We have never liked the new DOD knobs, as they are too big and don't look right. We finally found some original style knobs and can use these on the mods too, for $5 more. At the bottom is the normal new reissue DOD pedal. On the top right is an old 1980 DOD pedal with the original, smaller knobs. At the top left is a new pedal with the small knobs that we added.
OPTIONAL TOGGLE
We can mount a small toggle switch on the DOD pedal. It will change from silicon (DOD) to germanium (MXR Distortion+) with the middle position NO CLIPPING which is sort of like the MXR Micro amp but can still get nice crunchy distortion with the GAIN knob. Germanium is smoother and darker but has less volume. The middle NO CLIPPING position is louder and more open sounding. No need to get the MXR option with this option, as it gives you the MXR sound.
Comparisons to get unity gain volume with single coil pickups into a clean amp:
Clean boost, gain at zero MXR : level 3:00, still some distortion even with gain at zero. DOD : level 12:00, no distortion, can get a decent clean boost up all the way none : about the same as DOD. Probably cleaner than DOD with humbuckers.
Gain at noon for medium distortion sounds: MXR : Level noon DOD : Level 10:00 None: Level 9:00
Gain at max: MXR : level 10:30 DOD : level 9:00 none : level 8:00
BASS PLAYERS CHECK IT OUT!!!!
Monster
Magnet went back in the studio in 2010 and Phil Caivano grabbed a bunch
of pedals to test out. He got our DOD with the MOJO mod and ended up
using on bass on many tracks. He compared it to a lot of expensive fuzz,
OD, and distortion pedals made for bass and the DOD just sounded
better, had a really cool GROWL.
