OD-9 with Bad Bob
Features
The Maxon OD-9 introduced in the summer of '02, is a TS9 (looks exactly the same) with the correct JRC4558D chip, and it had a DPDT switch replacing the FET switching. This early OD-9 had "normal" bypass like an old 70s pedal but does not suck much tone when OFF. In about 2004 they changed to a 4PDT true bypass micro switch and the new ones now do have true bypass under the stock switch rocker. This OD-9 should not be confused with the original 1984 Ibanez OD-9 which was not a tube screamer circuit (and very rare, I finally got one for my collection in 2007) . Since it is a TS9 circuit, we offer the same mods on the OD-9, either the CLASSIC, Silver, or True Vintage mod, along with KWS option, etc.

This OD-9 board has many parts removed in preparation for our SILVER mod. Much of it's TS9 circuit board is already empty because it no longer uses the TS9s FET switching. So there is less circuitry in your signal path for a clearer, purer tone. I recommend the OD-9 over the TS9 for best tone both ON and OFF. The true bypass switch is a little different feeling from a Boss or Ibanez switch. Like all true bypass pedals it goes down and back up to switch, unlike a momentary switch which just sends a pulse when you touch it.

The Maxon is made in the same factory that made the TS-808 pedals in the late 1970s and early 1980s and TS9 and 808 pedals until about 2002. We are not sure where the new TS808 and TS9 pedals are now made but they stopped saying MAXON in them in 2002. See our Tube Screamer history page for more info.

Dual pedal with BAD BOB
We have now released the Maxon OD9/808 with an added Bad Bob circuit inside. It's two pedals in one box, like the KOT. The Bad Bob has the added stomp switch on top, and either or both effects can be used. There is a new volume knob on the pedal for the booster volume, and a new LED indicator too.

The Bad Bob Booster circuit will not fit in any other pedal like a TS9, only the OD9 because of all the extra room on the circuit board

The Bad Bob pedal is a booster based on the famous and much copied mini-booster "JFET mu-amp" design of Jack Orman (check out his site to learn more). This design was also used as the basis for most other boutique boost pedals.

Here is a picture of the Bad Bob OD9 pedal with the optional SILVER mod (signified by the RE-J sticker).

stomp switch mod

Some people prefer a normal round stomp switch on their pedals, we can add one for $35 on a new OD9 or SD9 pedal. The stock switch requires careful pressing.

Note : Mod and option prices are cheaper when you buy the pedal from us, see mod form www.analogman.com/tsmodform.htm for prices on sending in your pedal for a mod.

5 of 5 the TS to rule them all April 8, 2024
Reviewer: Brent B from Plano, TX
I purchased the Mason OD-9 with silver mods and the bad bob boost and without hesitation I can say this is the best sounding tube screamer I have ever had.

Obviously this nails the classic mid-forward drive that everyone has come to love about this circuit, but what really astonished me was the note to note clarity and articulation that came from the analog.man mods.  Even though you can push this circuit and get pretty nasty with it, it never sounds muddy or messy.  Notes are crisp and sparkly and really accentuate the dynamics of the amps and the guitar your playing!

The bad bob booster is the cherry on top.  It really is an excellent mostly clean (until you really crank it) boost and sounds good by itself or stacked with the OD-9.  Stacked with the OD-9 it really helps to add back some of the low end that can get lost when pushing a signal with a drive pedal.  They are perfect for each other and well worth the extra cost!

5 of 5 AnalogMan Maxon OD9 TV Mod + Bad Bob September 11, 2022
Reviewer: JP from Colorado
Holy cow what a pedal!  I've been thru several/many/lots of OD pedals.  This is the best by far.  TV Mod keeps nice mids.  Can go from mild to wild on your amp.  The Bad Bob Boost gives it so much more, and frees up space on your board!  Use the Bad Bob alone to get your amp to naturally wake up, OR use it with the OD9 together to melt faces!  It has quickly become the cornerstone of my main board--now I need a second one for my small board.  I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!  PRO TIP: If your neighbors like listening to AC/DC, You definitely want the Bad Bob Boost!!

5 of 5 Maxon Od9 Silver Mod January 28, 2022
Reviewer: Jordan from Seattle
My primary amp for the past 15 years has been a small cab Matchless Spitfire which I run with a Victoria Reverberato and a Strat. I’ve loved the clean edge of break up tone, but have been though a dozen+ drive pedals (including several tube screamer variants) and never was happy with the tone. I’m kicking myself for not ordering this pedal sooner! It works seamlessly with the amplifier adding gain, taming some of the at times piercing treble from the Matchless, while still allowing the “strat” tone to shine. Really pleased with the purchase.

5 of 5 OD 9 with 808/Silver Mod April 17, 2016
Reviewer: Thomas Dunleavy from Marquette , MI United States
I just received my new Maxon OD9 Silver Mod. All I can really say is....... Wow! I love it! I have owned many expensive OD's , didn't love any of them. KTR, Timmy, Red Dirt, TS9, etc.... Finally an OD that makes me want to play for hours. I play through a Supro Thunderbolt RI 15", combined with my Am Strat the pedal sings. Clean yet powerful and full of sustain. Great job guys! Tom
