September, 2023 - The PEPBOX 2.0 is available, more pedalboard friendly!
August 2021 : we are getting these with output jacks instead of the attached cord, for easier use.
Sorry to say that Pepe Rush passed away unexpectedly on 5-November 2018. But his daughter Lucy, who had been building with him, is carrying on with the business and still making the same pedals. We got some of these in stock in mid 2019, if you can add to the cart we have one in stock for you. - AnalogMike
I would like to introduce you to the only authentic and authorised reissue
of the legendary RUSH PEPBOX, one of the first wave
of guitar effects
pedals with the new "Fuzz" sound, designed and built
in London in 1966 by
the creator Pepe Rush, owner of the Registered
Trademark "RUSH PEPBOX". The
RUSH PEPBOX was used by a number of
leading groups in the 60s including
The Beatles (who used one at
Abbey Road during the recording of Revolver)
The Shadows, The Animals
and others.
This is NOT the unauthorized copy built by the British Pedal Company for WEM.
Built on a replica of the
original printed circuit board, using rare NOS
(new old stock) germanium
transistors, some of which are over 40 years
old, to capture the unique
original sound, and housed in a faithful
recreation of the original wedge
shaped welded steel enclosure with
engraved panels, using a 9 v battery, we
have gone to extraordinary
lengths to ensure that this reissue is as close
to the originals as
possible, and each unit is passed by the
designer.
Here's the GUT SHOT:
I love how the transistors are tucked into the board:
PEPBOX 2.0
Since Lucy's father Pepe Rush
built the original Rush Pepbox in 1965 a lot has a lot has happened in
the guitar effects pedal scene over the years, with pedalboards becoming a
popular part of it. Lucy wanted to make the Rush Pepbox, with its unique
sound, compatible with the modern day, so has built the Rush Pepbox 2.0
Wedge-shaped welded steel enclosure in a silver Hammerite
finish – a little smaller than the original Rush Pepbox to fit into tighter spaces
White on black engraved labelling.
Runs off of a power supply jack. (9 volts center negative) but also runs off a 9volt battery like the original
Front mounted input, output and power jacks.
The PEP and LEVEL controls are moved to the face of the enclosure for ease of visibility.
Same germanium circuit with the same original Rush Pepbox sound
With a warm white LED that shows when FUZZ IS ON. True bypass when it is off.
Here's a cool interview with Pepe Rush, be sure to check out the comments from people who knew him in the '50s and '60s!
